FIRST STEPS
QUOTE
" A musician doesn't play just to reach the end, she gets enjoyment from the act itself. The motivation is focussed on the 'means not the ends. "

― Alan Watts
EQUIPMENT
QUOTE
"A lot of photographers think that if they buy a better camera they'll be able to take better photographs. A better camera won't do a thing for you if you don't have anything in your head or in your heart."

Arnold Newman
QUOTE
" The first 10 000 shots are the worst. "

1.1 EXERCISE QUESTION YOURSELF
Analyze your archives and find your first photographs that truly resonate with you. These could be images from your early shoots or works that evoke special emotions and memories.

Describe how you feel when looking at these photographs now. Pay attention to the emotions they evoke and recall the thoughts and inspiration that came to your mind when creating them. Reflect on the aspects of these photographs that you particularly like and why they attract you.

Set aside your favorite photographs from this archive and create a special collection or album for them. Return to these photographs periodically and review them. Notice the common elements, style, themes, or emotional power that unite these works. This will help you determine your direction of growth in photography and gain a better understanding of your unique style.

The goal of this assignment is to help you reassess and appreciate your early favorite photographs that truly inspire you. It will allow you to define your creative direction and use these works as a guide for your ongoing development in photography.

BREAKTHROUGH
1.1 EXERCISE - QUESTION
Reflect on the moment that you can consider as your first major breakthrough in your creativity. It could be a photograph, a series of works, a project, or an experience that greatly influenced you as a photographer and opened up new horizons in your creative journey.

Describe your first major breakthrough in creativity. Share what happened specifically, the ideas and experiments involved, and the results and emotions you experienced. Pay attention to how this breakthrough influenced your subsequent work and development.

Explore what led you to make this breakthrough. Was it new knowledge, inspiration from other artists, an internal drive for experimentation, or something else? Share your thoughts on how this experience changed you as a photographer and how it impacts your current creative approaches and goals.

The objective of this assignment is to help students become aware of and evaluate their first significant breakthrough in creativity. It allows them to analyze their growth and development, as well as identify the pivotal moment in their creative practice. This assignment also aims to inspire students by recognizing their past success and using it as a motivation to reach new heights in photography.
MOVING TO BERLIN IN 2007
PHOTO SCHOOLS IN BERLIN
1.1 EXERCISE - PHOTO SCHOOL
Explore offerings from various photography schools, faculties, degree programs, or certification courses.

Review different options and carefully examine the information provided for each course. Pay attention to the curriculum, goals, and outcomes, as well as the instructors' expertise in the photography industry.

Select a few courses or programs that interest you and align with your goals and interests in photography.

Describe the selected courses and programs, explaining why they capture your attention. Consider their content and structure, and provide arguments for how you believe they can help you develop your skills and knowledge in photography.

Formulate your expectations and goals for the chosen courses. Identify the skills and knowledge you hope to gain and how it will contribute to your long-term photographic ambitions.

The objective of this assignment is to encourage students to explore available photography courses and programs, analyze their content, and determine which ones may be most beneficial for their development in the field. It also helps students establish their goals and expectations for their education and take responsibility for their own learning in photography.
ASSISTING
QUOTE
" People think that it is important to learn by assisting the great photographers. I say that is a big mistake. Be happy; just learn from any little guy. Learn how to use the camera - you don't need anything else. You can't be taught the real skill anyway."

― Peter Lindbergh
1.1 EXERCISE - ASSISTING
Create a list of photographers you would like to work with in the future.

Justify your choice for each photographer, explaining why they inspire and interest you. Reflect on the specific skills, methods, and approaches you hope to gain by working with these photographers.

Pay attention to the advantages that such collaboration can bring you. Consider the opportunity to learn new techniques, expand your professional knowledge, improve your creative approach, receive valuable advice and mentorship, as well as the chance to establish valuable connections and broaden your professional network.

The goal of this assignment is to help students identify their preferences in working with photographers and realize which work and collaboration with specific professionals can bring them the maximum benefits and development in photography. It will also assist them in setting specific goals and strategies to achieve success in their photography career.
